Our Sites
In these first three years of our existence we’ve established 11 food forest sites in Portland, most on privately-owned donated land for 5-year periods with the exception of the Los Jardines and Oliver Middle School food forests. This combination of front yards, back yards, apartment complex courtyard, schoolyard and farm land allows us to plant demonstration sites, conduct plant research, and propagate nut and fruit-bearing trees and shrubs without having to navigate city contracts or entanglements.
Our intention is to:
Normalize food forest/productive ecosystem as landscaping in urban/suburban spaces
Popularize awareness of and about food forestry so that the basics are common knowledge
Conduct free public educational tours of these sites
Demonstrate the feasibility and utility of urban agroforestry in place of grass.
Connect landless volunteer stewards with the sites so that they can gain experience growing their own food, practicing permaculture principles, and developing a relationship with the land and its inhabitants.
Produce a large quantity of nutrient-dense produce to share with community members who are experiencing food-insecurity.
Project site pages will be updated as they mature. Addresses are approximate on the map and can be seen via volunteering or tours. Please do not visit them on your own.
